Rules of Engagement, Community Standards, and Code of Conduct.

ABA gives everyone equal access to the collective intelligence of a larger group. As such, we welcome all to ask for and offer help, regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, religion, ability, ethnicity, or socio-economic class.

In order to achieve our goals, we encourage the following behaviors. They lead to a positive environment for the community:

  • Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people
  • Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.
  • Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback
  • Being willing to share our time, talent, expertise, connections, introductions, or other resources when relevant and appropriate
  • Being willing to ask for help when we need it, which gives others the opportunity to be givers.
  • Make every effort to be accurate when sharing information
  • Be professional: Always act in a professional and constructive manner and use sound judgement before posting. Respect people’s privacy

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
  • Public or private harassment
  • Publishing others’ private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission
  • Posting malicious, misleading or unfair content about your organization, colleagues, competitors or other stakeholders.
  • Posting content that is obscene, defamatory, threatening or discriminatory to an individual, brand or entity.
  • Using ABA to advertise your business or services when it has not been asked for
  • Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting

Our Commitment

Our goal is to make all ABA users feel welcome, regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, religion, ability, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.

We do not tolerate harassment of our members.

Leaders are responsible for clarifying and enforcing standards of acceptable behavior and taking appropriate and fair corrective action when inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful behavior is observed.

We have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject requests, offers, comments, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.

Please report instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior to the community leaders responsible for enforcement at ellen@aba-ny.com. All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly. All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.

These Community Impact Guidelines will be used by community leaders to determine the consequences of any action they deem to be in violation of this Code of Conduct:

1. Community leaders will issue a private, written warning when a member uses inappropriate language or behaves in a manner that is unprofessional or unwelcome in the community. A private, written warning will be issued by community leaders explaining the nature of the violation and why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.

2. Temporary Ban: when there has been a serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, community leaders may choose to issue a temporary ban from the community for a specified period of time. Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.

3. ABA reserves the right to permanently ban a user who has demonstrated a pattern of violating community standards, such as sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an individual, or aggressive behavior toward or disparagement of classes of individuals.
